At MKD, we always question:

• Why do local entrepreneurs and investors shy away from hardware innovation?
• Why do most of the promising ideas fail to materialize?

We researched this with entrepreneurs, investors and support organizations.
We received the following feedback and responses:

• The design was not manufacturable, complicated or feasible.
• Mold cost was too high for our initial quantity.
• We needed to work with too many suppliers, design, mold making, molder material supply....
• We could not source appropriate material.
• Once we produced, the market asked for lower cost and changes in the design, we had no capital left to upgrade.
• Our supplier from another country did not provide agreed upon specifications.
• Our prototype worked but with real material it failed.
• It took too long from idea to final product, and we lost the opportunity.
• I wish I had enough money to redo the project.
• I don't know who stole my idea.

APD is all about starting early in the project. We either design or redesign the product where every design detail is questioned and evaluated for practical impact, user experience, and visual appeal. Material options are selected and sourced through our compounding partner. Thus, once a design is semi finalized, prototypes are made for validation and testing including engineering analysis.

Meanwhile, our rapid tooling team that has already built a number of standard moulds for fast insert core cavity changes starts designing the inserts to fit in one of our standard moulds.

By the time final design is approved, metal cutting starts till the mold is ready for finishing and assembly.

Using our in-house molding facility, or at one of our partners, we start producing samples and prepare for production run, after final validation. If changes are required, we make the changes until we perfect the product. Then we run the minimum order.

Our client only pays for the minimum order requested and the initiation cost.
Thus:

• Short delivery time.
• No international shipping and clearing issues.
• Control on product disclosure.
• Changes and upgrades are easy and possible.
